Civil Works at QAPCO QVC PVC Project
Client: QAPCO
Design and construction of a 350,000 tonne-per-annum PVC production facility comprising 22+ structures across a 54,000m² site — including two reaction lines, a drying building, VCM and chemical dosing buildings, a two-storey 3,000m² substation, and cooling, compressed-air and demineralised water plants.
Pre-contract review of tender drawings, schedules, specifications and scopes, with cost estimation and risk identification before commitment.
Detailed structural shop drawings and formwork verification for reinforced concrete superstructure elements — including a live load and pressure analysis of the reaction building machine-slab shoring system, cross-checked against supplier allowable limits before casting was authorised.
Coordination of steel structure design, fabrication and installation with the specialist supplier — universal sections for heavy-load silo support and pre-engineered steel for the packaging hall — with client modifications incorporated after 3D model review.
Reconciliation of the tender bill of quantities against design drawings: excavation over-estimated at 120,000m³ against an actual requirement not exceeding 90,000m³, and reinforcement at 1,900t flagged as excessive for 7,500m³ of light-load isolated foundations — resolved through RFIs and a revised BOQ, bringing cost within budget without reducing subcontract rates.
Engineered underground structures up to 6m below ground (drying pit, cooling water station, treatment plant, VCM pit) using a crystallised waterproofing admixture and GRP coating system, removing a two-month leak-test hold point ahead of the region's heat-stress season.
Heat-stress programme management — night-shift rescheduling, resource re-allocation and productivity monitoring to protect the schedule through summer, when site productivity can drop below 40%.
Permit coordination with the client and local authorities for green- and brown-field works, dewatering discharge routing and testing, and escorted delivery of oversized equipment.
